Diagnostic Imaging
The Mammography Supervisor reports to the Director of Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiovascular Services or designee. The Mammography Supervisor is responsible for the coordination of Mammography procedures and care partners; provision of efficient and accurate images based on patient diagnosis and oversees the operations of the Mammography Department. Responsible and accountable for department operations, fiscal/financial management, quality, service, environment of care/safety, risk management, and human resource management. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, goals and values.
- Provides all aspects of Screening, Diagnostic and Contrast enhanced Mammography and Breast Biopsy care based on established standards by MQSA and the ACR. May also be responsible for performing Xray and Bone Density exams. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served evidenced by: The ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs; a knowledge of growth and development; and understanding of how to compensate for technical factors to provide an optimal clinical image for interpretation.
- Responsible for daily operations and management functions for area of responsibility. Daily prioritizes all Inpatients, Outpatients, and Emergency Mammography procedures, as well as the Radiologists Invasive schedule as appropriate. Coordinates all aspects of the stereotactic breast biopsy program. Maintains cleanliness and general order of Mammography area. Responsible for the ordering / delegating of Mammography supplies ensuring appropriate levels are maintained. Responsible for ensuring supplies ordered and the evaluation of all new products within Mammography.
- Responsible for planning work schedules (i.e., On-Call, Daily and Weekend) for Mammography Care Partners. Responsible for the selection, evaluation, discipline, termination, license verification and in-service education of responsible Care Partners. Ensures competency skills, testing is complete and evaluates Mammography Care Partners during probationary and annual periods. Provides Diagnostic Imaging policy and procedure orientation as needed. Monitors Mammography Care Partners for compliance and takes corrective action when necessary. Oversee students rotating through the Mammography Department.
- Administers contrast agents when appropriate using established departmental criteria and Mammography guidelines for the correct agent, computer entry for charge capture and recognition of adverse patient reaction. Completes all necessary documentation related to contrast media use.
- Radiologists. Completes accurate and timely PACS inputs.
- Responsible for complete and accurate charging of Mammography procedures and related expenses. Monitors staff for compliance and takes corrective action when necessary.
- Interviews with patient and physicians to collect pertinent information (patient history) to ensure an appropriate and efficient study.
- Maintains cleanliness and general order of Mammography area. Responsible for the ordering of Mammography contrast and other supplies ensuring appropriate levels are maintained
- Responsible for training other radiologic technologists in Mammography operations and oversee students rotating through the Mammo Department.
- Collaborates with the radiologist to establish Mammography protocols to optimize quality examinations. Reviews software updates by manufacturer.
- Ensures patient and personal radiation protection by ascertaining pregnancy status when indicated and practicing ALARA principles (time, distance, shielding) of dose reduction.
- Attends supervisory and staff meetings as appropriate and promotes the general professional attitude and objectives of the hospital to all patients, visitors, nursing, and medical staff.
- Responsible for maintaining ACR accreditation for all modalities across all sites.
- Responsible for maintaining MQSA certifications and requirements within Mammography facilities to meet federal and/or state regulations.
Formal Education:
- Associate’s Degree or other Two-Year College equivalent required.
- Greater than 2 years highly preferred.
- State of Florida Radiologic Technologist License required.
- Registered Radiology Technologist R.T.(R)(ARRT) required.
- Registered Technologist in Mammography R.T.(M)(ARRT) required.
