Operating Room
- Answer incoming calls in a timely and professional manner.
- Responds as a receptionist to patient, staff, physician, and visitors and other departments. Relays messages and coordinates information exchanges demonstrating professional telephone etiquette and interpersonal communication skills.
- Make outgoing calls to patients and physicians as needed to schedule appointments and or obtain updated/corrected order information.
- Schedules all patients for, surgical procedures through the applicable scheduling module (i.e. Meditech).
- Meets/exceeds performance expectations and completes work within the required timeframe.
- Ensure that any edits are performed in the scheduling module.
- Receive, maintain and ensure physician orders are indexed appropriately.
- Maintain knowledge of the scheduling reports for the next day to ensure department readiness in the event of any unscheduled Meditech down-time.
- Select the correct patient medical record number consistently.
- Maintain open communication with the registration staff regarding those unscheduled patients presenting for services to ensure appropriate testing is performed and times are available.
- Utilize appropriate method/tool to communicate with Patient Access Staff and other facility departments as necessary.
- Organize and file medical information reports, maintains the patient throughout record, assembles and copies records and other necessary paperwork for transfers and discharges to other units or outside facilities. Arranges discharges by entering information in computer system and patient transporter services.
- Edit medical accounts to appropriate status per guidelines.
- Receive, maintain, and index physician orders guidelines.
- Attends in-service presentations, and completes mandatory education.
- Orders supplies on a weekly basis as directed; maintain unit inventory of chart and office supplies in Nursing Station and Physician Work Rooms. Maintain equipment and update work order system as needed.
- Assembles and maintains a supply of admission and discharge paperwork for future admissions and discharges. Operates office equipment such as computers, fax machines, phone systems, copy machines, scanners and label printers.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
- Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1 to 2 years of related experience preferred.
