The Security Lead reports to the Security Supervisor, assists in providing general direction and control of basic and advanced security officers. Monitors designated emergency security equipment and materials to ensure a constant state of readiness. Assists in providing training and evaluating competencies for subordinates. Acts in the supervisory capacity in the absence of the department supervisor. Serves as supervisory back up in emergency incidents with activation of the Incident Command. Reviews written reports to ensure compliance with department standards. Performs assigned administrative duties. Provides a public safety presence to maintain a safe and secure environment. Executes activities to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and bodily harm. Prevents crime and enables deterrence by presenting a highly visible, physically capable, professional uniformed presence. Responds to alarms and other calls for assistance to rescue, protect, and defend. Provides defined services to all PMC locations to include contacts with external agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as preceptor for new Security officers in safety, security and in emergency preparedness. Assists with orientation, training, and completion of competencies for Security Officers. Participates in process-improvement projects, in-services, and other training activities. Conducts departmental and inter-departmental training when directed.
- In the absence of the Security Supervisor, directs and controls the assignment of Security Officers in response to CODE and/or other emergency situations.
- Regularly inspects and monitors designated security equipment to ensure functionality and availability during the work period. Conducts patrols and reports as well as records observations of hazardous, unsafe, or non-secure conditions.
- Reviews and approves reports submitted by security staff. Assist in probationary/annual performance evaluations of staff, and in assessing staff competencies. Assists Security Supervisor with assigned administrative duties.
- Executes Communication Center operations when required. Maintains radio and telephone communication with hospital Communications Center, security, and other staff. Communicates emergency and non-emergency information in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. This includes PMC’s offsite locations and countywide emergency management contacts.
- Controls access to PMC facilities by monitoring entrances and exits; prevents unauthorized access; assists in the removal of unauthorized persons from the premises; assists law enforcement/fire service agencies as required. Provides safety/security services to all PMC locations to include contacts with external agencies.
- Conducts and records detailed investigations of physical injury, property theft, damage, or loss.
- Rescues, evacuates, or transports victims from fire or other hazardous conditions; responds to fire alarms and assists in containing or extinguishing fires as necessary.
- Enforces parking policies; maintains clear vehicular access routes to Emergency Room Entrances; maintains emergency access lanes for fire response apparatus.
- Controls disturbances and or combative situations through crisis prevention techniques.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
- Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area
Requirements:
Formal Education:
- Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship desired beyond high school. AA Degree or advance studies in law enforcement, corrections, fire science, safety, or another related field desired.
Work Experience:
- 2 years to < 3 years experience; minimum of 1-year experience in law enforcement, corrections, security, fields required, or greater than 1 year experience as PMC security officer
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
- Valid State of Florida Drivers License and maintains PMC driving standards
- IAHHS Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor (CHSS) within one year of hire
- FEMA IS100, IS200, IS700, IS800, IS906 and IS907 within one year of hire.
All above functions must be re-certified as required to maintain competency. - BLS through The American Heart Association required to be completed quarterly through RQI.
