General Description:
The Risk Manager is responsible for promoting and demonstrating Parrish Healthcare’s Culture of Choice®; actively and effectively participates in ensuring strategic goals and objectives are met or exceeded. This position plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. This role works collaboratively with clinical and administrative leaders to foster a proactive safety culture, ensure adherence to laws and standards, and protect the organization’s assets and reputation. Manages the electronic event reporting system, coordinating the response to adverse events, supporting the patient grievance process, facilitating Root Cause Analyses as well as Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and managing local claims in partnership with legal and system teams. Provides risk-related education to Care Partners on risk reduction, patient safety, and regulatory standards. Promotes a culture of transparency, learning, and accountability. The Manager assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for assigned functional area(s). This position reports to the Executive Director, Quality and Risk Management and Senior Vice President of Transformation and Network Development/Chief Transformation Officer.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manages the electronic event reporting system, coordinating the response to adverse events, supporting the patient grievance process, facilitating Root Cause Analyses as well as Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and managing local claims in partnership with legal and system teams.
2. Provides risk-related education to Care Partners on risk reduction, patient safety, and regulatory standards. Promotes a culture of transparency, learning, and accountability.

4. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and analyzes incident data, to include near misses and patient grievances to identify trends and recommend system-wide improvements. Assists with surveys, audits, and inspections.
5. Partners with the Medical Staff, Nursing Leadership, and/or Clinical Review Committee (“Committee”), develop specific criteria for data collection and clinical peer review. Partners with leaders to implement corrective actions following adverse events.
6. Demonstrates continuous improvement commitment to always achieve national best/leading-practice standards for quality and safety as measured by CMS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies pertinent to areas of responsibility, holding self and others accountable for actions and outcomes.
7. Adheres to all Parrish Healthcare policies and procedures as well as regulations and codes established by federal, state, and local governments affecting professional practice and industry regulations.
8. Leads necessary certification, accreditation, and audit procedures; and ensures that reports required by regulatory agencies are prepared and submitted within established timeframes.

11. Demonstrates effective planning and administration of annual budget(s); maintains established productivity benchmarks; and implements effective corrective actions for any operating expenses that deviate from budget.

Requirements:

Formal Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required within related field. Associate’s Degree (AA or AS) in related field with two years supervisory or management experience may be substituted for Bachelor’s Degree.  
Work experience:
  • 3 years to <5 years of experience in healthcare risk management or patient safety support strongly preferred. 
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: 
  • Current Sigma Six Green Belt certification or required within one (1) year of employment. 
  • Associate in Risk Management or Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management preferred. 
  • National Certification in the field of Risk Management is also preferred.
